Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in National Herald Case

The National Herald case continues to garner widespread attention, especially due to the involvement of high-profile Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. The case, rooted in allegations of financial misconduct, has sparked legal debates and political controversies across India.

The National Herald case revolves around the acquisition of Associated Journals Limited (AJL), which once published the now-defunct National Herald newspaper, by Young Indian Private Limited - a company in which both Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi hold major shares.

Allegations include:
-Use of Young Indian to acquire AJL’s assets without adequate compensation.
-Misappropriation of assets worth over ₹2,000 crore.
-Violation of the Companies Act and Income Tax regulations.

In recent developments, Rahul Gandhi appeared before the ED in connection with the money laundering investigation under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The sessions lasted several hours across multiple days, attracting massive media coverage and political responses.

Sonia Gandhi, Chairperson of the Indian National Congress, has also been questioned by the ED. While the Congress has maintained that the case is politically motivated, the ED continues its probe into the alleged financial irregularities.
